HELINNGO, an approved big bag for lifting and transporting loads by helicopter: a tailored-made solution developed by SO BAG

They fly over the Alps and the Pyrenees as well as over Reunion Island... Discover HELINNGO big bags with Céline POULACHON, Sales and Product Innovation Manager at SO BAG.

Why have you developed a big bag for helicopter transport ?

"SO BAG was contacted in 2018 by Direction de la Prévention des Risques Professionnels (Prevention of Occupational Risks Directorate) of CARSAT (French Pension Insurance and Occupational Health Institution). A working group was investigating the security of helicopter operations, particularly in mountains, and they needed our expertise as a big bag designer and manufacturer.”

How did you proceed ?

“We have been working with helicopter companies in order to understand the specific aspects of their activity and their needs: reduction of in-flight vibrations, improvement of abrasion resistance, avoidance of belt entanglement, etc. Our method that enables us to design a product perfectly adapted to customers' requirements is centred on user experience. Thus, in order to develop the HELLINNGO solution, we have had our prototype big bags tested by the helicopter companies."

How does your expertise differ ?

"We specialise in big bags and we extensively study the contexts of their usage.
In the case of helicopter operations, physical constraints are of importance as well as the fact that some zones may be hard-to-reach.  By the way, what worries us is that traditional single-use big bags for construction materials are still often employed in helicopter transport. But no one should gamble with safety!
Our approaches have led us to design, together with big bag users, the product that complies to standards and, notably, has the 8/1 safety factor, as recommended by the OPPBTP (French Professional Organisation for Accident Prevention in Building and Public Works)."

Since their commissioning in 2019, HELINNGO big bags have been flying over the Alps and the Pyrenees as well as over Reunion Island in order to lay and remove materials, resupply mountain refuges, clean natural parks or maintain electric lines.
They are manufactured at our Burgundian facility, with the technical know-how of our 30 employees.

Our core business is the tailor-made design and manufacture.
Thus, the development of a specific product for helicopter operations fits perfectly within our expertise.

Do you need specific large-capacity packaging? We are here to help you fulfil your project.
