Are all the big bags reusable ?

The reuse of packaging contributes to extending its life cycle.
It leads to development of circular economy, waste reduction and resource conservation.
And what about big bags ?

The international standard ISO 21898 specifications

The use of big bags is regulated and approved according to their safety factor:
•    5:1  single use only, so 1 use = 1 filling + 1 unloading,
•    6:1  moderate reuse,
•    8:1  intensive reuse.

The security factor is indicated not only in the technical data sheet but also on the mandatory label sewn to each big bag.

In the case of reusable big bags (with the safety factors 6:1 or 8:1), it is advisable that you ensure that they are in a good condition and that you check their materials (fabrics, belts, damaged threads, etc.) before using them.

If you opt for a big bag from the second-hand market, we have some suggestions:

  • Don't buy big bags with the security factor 5:1 (so-called "reusable"). They are intended for single use only and can lose their properties during their first usage.
  • If you buy a big bag labelled 6:1 or 8:1, you should get detailed information about the conditions of its previous use. So, taking into consideration the nature of the packaged product, is the big bag compatible with the matter you want to use it for?
